Saw him in concert February of 2020 before Covid hit with my hubby in Hershey, PA. He still has it and was just fabulous! He is aging mighty gracefully. Hope to see him and Oats again after this craziness is over!

Ravishing: just sounds "nicer and smoother" to me.it's the little things. It sounds a little faster or may be they chaged the backbeat a little, so it seems to hold together better. The musicians' and Daryl too seem to be a little bolder in their adlibs/improvs. The instruments sound better (I think the album's production quality was largely weak IMO). Too bad they couldn't take all the songs on the road, hone them for a few weeks and THEN put them on the record!
Album production weak??? funny you should say that as i got older and my taste got better. I thought the production on Soul Alone was a little Heavy Handed/Overproduced. There was a lot going on musically on most of the songs. I still love the album but wish it would have been stripped down a little. I could even have done with none of the background singers. Or maybe Daryl layer his own vocals (i think he even did on a song here and there)
I think as time goes on the production of Soul Alone slowly builds the perfect balance of warmth and funk to build a hybrid spectacle of a timeless spin! Cheers!
